Current conditions within Australia’s health care system serve to highlight the importance of the opportunity that Taiwan’s medical tourism poses to Australians.

At the moment, Australia’s health care system is characterized by the following negative factors:

  • Potential shortage of nurses in all states.
  • Inadequacy of equipment.
  • Extensive long queue and wait-list for elective surgeries, i.e. Cataract surgery (median wait is 73 days, 10% waited more than 316 days).
  • Orthopedic Surgery
  • There are long waiting lists for orthopedic surgery (median wait for total hip replacement is 88 days. 10% of patients waited over 345 days in 1999 to 2000).
  • Australian insurance doesn’t cover orthopedic surgery.
