About 62 species of firefly make their home in Taiwan, and 38 of those can be found at Alishan. From April to June, Alishan turns into a haven of fireflies, among them the Luciola cerata, Curtos sauteri, Luciola anceyi, and Luciola kagiana. Thousands of these small flying lanterns fill the night sky at this time, dazzling in their beautiful illuminated dance.
