In Feng Shui, a pair of Mandarin Ducks symbolizes happiness in love. An ancient philosophy with modern relevance – The ancient system of Chinese aesthetics forms a deep aspect of the Taiwanese character, a lifestyle defined by the maximisation of positive energy.

As part of their traditional Taoist beliefs, many Chinese people still use a process of ‘Geomancy” widely known as “Fengshui”. In order to ensure the harmonious order of the world of both the living and the dead- certain structures and physical objects need to be arranged to suit the balance of energy and spirits.

Geomancers are often consulted to ensure the correct physical layout of homes and workplaces. In Taiwan, geomancers are widely consulted on the positioning and decoration of tombs.

The history of Fengshui covers 3,500 years before the invention of the magnetic compass. It originated in Chinese astronomy. Some current techniques can be traced to Neolithic China, while others were added later (most notably the Han dynasty, the Tang, the Song, and the Ming). The magnetic compass was invented for Fengshui and has been in use since its invention.

Today, Fengshui is practiced not only by the Chinese, but also by Westerners. Many people believe it is important and very helpful in living a prosperous and healthy life either avoiding or blocking negative energies that might otherwise have bad effects.
