Yangmingshan Flower FestivalAll regions of Taiwan – North, South, Central and East are home to their own distinct landscapes, spectacular beauty and lush varieties.

Seven star mountain Taiwan with hot springNorth Taiwan – Yangmingshan & Beitou

Yangmingshan National Park is located within 30 minutes by car from downtown Taipei. Yangmingshan is filled with dormant volcanoes and is densely dotted with hot-springs, fumeroles and craters, and other geothermal phenomena. Many hot spring spas are concentrated in the Beitou area. These resorts provide different kinds of spring pools and have wonderful restaurants. Cingtiangang is a popular spot for astronomers in Northern Taiwan. Its location high above the city allows for great stargazing on cold winter nights.

MiaoliCentral Taiwan – Miaoli

Sanyi in Miaoli, is famous for woodcarving: there are hundreds of boutiques offering a wide range of woodcarvings from sculptures to furniture. The Sanyi Woodcarving Museum carries five thematic exhibitions: a general introduction to woodcarvingm statue making in China, woodcarving arts in Taiwan, the transformation and future of the woodcarving industry, and the woodcarving classroom, where visitors can try their hand at this ancient craft.

AlishanSouthern Taiwan – Alishan

During the Japanese colonisation occupation, Alishan became famous for its rich forests, especially the vast fields of Taiwan Yellow and False Red Cupress. Alishan is also famous for its cherry blossoms, as well as its sunsets and even more beautiful sunrises, when the sun rises slowly above a sea of clouds. The Alishan Forest Railway is one of the only three remaining alpine railways in the world. The Japanese built the railway to convey lumber from the forests. From Chiayi City about 30 metres above sea level, the railway ascends into the mountains to over 2,000 metres above sea level. There are 49 tunnels, 77 bridges and numerous wonderful sights along the railroad. Because of the steep incline, the train has to zigzag upward, making the ride an unforgettable experience. Because there is only one train trip scheduled daily, its best for visitors to check the timetable when making travel plans.

Taroko National ParkEastern Taiwan – Taroko National Park

Taroko National Park in Eastern Taiwan covers a wide area including parts of Hualien, Taichung and Nantou Counties. Its topography is mountainous: valleys, gorges, mountains, rapid rivers and waterfalls characterise most of the area. Its spectacular scenery has long been world-renowned, especially along the Central Corss-Island Highway between Taroko and Tiansiang.

Taroko Gorge is formed by the Liwu River cutting through the marble mountains. Because of the continuous tectonic movement of this area, cliffs faults and creases in the marble surface are very common. As the river flows through the gorge, it forms V-shaped valleys and precipitous cliffs, on which beautiful stone patterns can clearly be seen. In some places, the stone walls of the valley stand so close together that they only allow a thin line of sunlight through to the floor of the gorge. Waterfalls cascade off the cliffs, and trees cling to their vertical surfaces. The majestic scene is like that of a poetic Chinese brush painting. The Gorge is one of the natural wonders of Asua and should not be missed.
