2009 Sword Grass Season on the Caoling Historic Trail |

Director Lin Kun-yuan of the Northeast Coast National Scenic Area Administration says that this year's event will present a time tunnel of past, present and future along the 8.5-kilometer Caoling Trail, with many eco-themed and artistic installations to appreciate en route. The administration plans to adorn the "Modern Area" of the trail with driftwood washed up by Typhoon Morakot on August 8 this year. The Caoling Trail also invites one back in time to an earlier time, when the hills here were rife with bandits. Visitor's can relive this colorful chapter of the trail's history by participating in a "Mountain Bandit Game" during this year's Sword Grass Season . Visitors can also collect stamps at various scenic sites during the Sword Grass Season to exchange for souvenirs. There will also be a ginger tea appreciation and other new activities, like the Yakou Prayer Bell Ceremony, an online photograph contest, and the 2009 Yilan Coastal Photography Contest and Exhibition. Visitors can also head to the Dali Visitor Center for DIY stone rubbing.
Even if you can't make it for the Sword Grass Season, there are plenty of good reasons to visit the Northeast Coast during summer and fall. Enjoy the unbroken blues of the sky and sea at beautiful Fulong Beach, cycle back in time through the Old Caoling Train Tunnel, get back to nature at the Longmen Camping Site and Bitou, or explore the fascinating unusual rock formations at Longdong. Culture, nature and a journey of discovery all await you at Taiwan's beautiful Northeast Coast!
