Running from February 10 to the 22nd, the ‘China Airlines Online Survey’ was sent to agents across Australia, including the major chains of Flight Centre, Jetset, Harvey World Travel as well as a number of independent agents. Attracting almost 230 responses, the survey asked questions ranging from which airlines agents would recommend to what particular attributes separated certain airlines from others.
All those that completed the survey went into the draw to win a return ticket to London flying with China Airlines. The lucky winner of the trip was Mr. Shane Caffyn of Discovery Travel Centre who was announced in a draw conducted on February 26 at the Sydney office of China Airlines in the presence of China Airlines Australian Branch Sales Manager, Jim Wong and Justice of the Peace Alan Hu.
With the survey garnering answers to specifically targeted questions from a diverse sample of agents from across Australia, China Airlines and Formosa Travel & Holidays have been able to collate all the data and gauge the most accurate representation of Australian travel agents with respect to the major players in the airline industry.
Survey respondents were asked which airlines their clients prefer to fly with to the respective destinations of Europe, Asia and North America. The results revealed an overall preference of travelers to fly with Singapore Airlines to both Asia and Europe, garnering 58 and 39 per cent of respectively. When asked for what reason clients would choose a particular airline, 30 per cent thought that the brand image of the airline flying to Europe was the most significant factor, while for airlines flying to Asia, 38 per cent thought flight schedule and flexibility were the most significant factors, followed by price at 28 per cent.
Qantas fared the best for those wishing to travel to North America, garnering 50 per cent of the votes, followed by V Australia at 28 per cent, with 40 per cent of respondents believing price is the biggest factor determining clients’ choice. With respect to all destinations, airlines that respondents felt their clients preferred the least included Cathay Pacific, British Airways and Eitihad.
China Airlines, given its size, brand awareness and limited marketing capabilities, fared surprisingly well compared to the larger, more established airlines. When asked which airline respondents would recommend their clients to fly to London with, 36 per cent said they would recommend China Airlines, while 25 per cent would recommend Singapore Airlines and 20 per cent, Emirates.
With respect to which airlines clients would prefer to fly with to the three aforementioned destinations, China Airlines ranked fourth for both Europe and Asia and third for North America, outranking the likes of Eitihad, British Airways, United Airlines and Cathay Pacific.
