Cardiovascular Surgery

Statistically, Taiwan performs more than 5000 cardiac diagnostics and treatment procedures per year, including 100 heart transplantation cases, numerous CABG, valve replacement, cardiac catheterization and stent cases. The success rate of coronary artery stent implantation is up to 99%. Taiwan has also established the first team in the world to perform auto-heart transplantation surgeries.

Until 2007, more than 6,000 cases had been conducted for supraventricular tachycardia treatment. Medical staff in Taiwan also have abundant experience in radiofrequency catheter ablation treatment for arrhythmia, coronary artery disease treatment, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and cardiovascular health examination.

Liver Transplantation

Taiwan is a world leader in Hepatic Medicine (liver), with most recent acclaim awarded to Prof. Chen Ding Shinn, the first Taiwanese to receive the International Recognition Award by the European Association for the Study of the Liver. In 1997, medical staff in Taiwan completed the first split liver transplantation in Asia and the first living donor liver transplant without transfusion blood or blood products in the world. Reported by American Journal of Transplantation in 2006, one of Taiwan’s hospitals has achieved the highest five-year survival rate of up to 91.2%.

Joint Replacement Surgery

Hospitals in Taiwan conduct approximately 20,000 joint replacement surgeries per year. There is an emphasis in Taiwan to use minimally invasive surgery (MIS), computer-aided navigation and rotation osteotomy to significantly reduce the tissue trauma during operation and to shorten the postoperative recovery time. For most joint replacement surgeries, patients can leave the hospital the day after surgery and can expect to fully recover within 2-3 weeks.

Artifical Reproduction

Gynaecologists in Taiwan provide many reproductive techniques, including artificial insemination, in-vitro fertilization (IVF), cryopreservation, intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), tubal embryo transfer (TET) and pre-implantation genetic diagnosis.

Statistically, the success rate of conceiving using these techniques in Taiwan has been 37.7%, with a live birth rate at 27.7%.
